Snowboard – carving a new path

This exhibition invites visitors up onto the sinuous slopes to discover some of the most significant twists and turns in snowboarding history.  Born in the USA‑ in the 1960s, this new sport conquered the European slopes in the early 1980s, tipping the firmly established alpine ski standards on their head.

Snowboarding very quickly found its fan base, who were quick to introduce a new approach to snow sports with a new style of its own – both in terms of technique and fashion. That is how an alternative wave, known as ‘snowboarding’, swooped into most ski areas, incidentally bringing carving into the alpine ski mix.

Designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences, this exhibition features iconic boards, images and documents from the archives, each highlighting how a single ‘board’ blew the world of winter sports wide open, all while carving out a whole new relationship with the mountains.
